Promoting human rights, European identity, and social inclusion among youth through upskilling youth workers with art-based methods and non-formal education approaches.

Call for application

We are inviting you to apply for participation in the  Erasmus+ program for European Youth. 
The Lighthouse of the North project uses art as a tool to raise awareness of human rights, with a particular focus on equality, inclusion and non-discrimination. It will equip European youth workers and trainers with creative and non-formal educational methodologies that blend art with human rights education.
Working language: English.
Eligible applicants should be residents of Sweden, Hungary and Ireland.
Youth workers and other professionals from other EU countries may apply, but priority will be given to applicants from the aforementioned three countries due to the grant's geographic focus.

About the Project

The collaborative project Lighthouse of the North promotes active citizenship, European identity and equality through human rights education.
It empowers young peoople to become engaged and responsible citizens by encouraging them to participate in their communities and advocate for inclusion and solidarity. By using culture and arts as a platform for communication, the project makes human rights education fun and accessible for anyone.
The project is implemented by Nordkonst (Sweden), TEIS (Hungary) and Eurobug (Ireland) with the financial support of Erasmus+ European grant.

Expected participants

Youth workers

Professionals working with youth, including migrants, refugees, and young people from low socio-economic backgrounds - interested in learning new methods for engagement through art and creative practices.

Educators and Trainers

Non-formal education professionals seeking to expand their knowledge of art-based methodologies for teaching human rights.

Artists

Creative individuals with experience in community-based work, interested in integrating human rights education into their artistic practices.

Activities of the Project

The core activity of the Project

Light academy

May 23–31, 2025: A week-long training on art-based methodologies for human rights education will take place in Hungary (near Esztergom).
The art-based methodologies will enable participants to engage vulnerable youth, foster inclusion and equality, and expand professional networks.
Art-focused: Modules will cover art-based methodologies, including visual storytelling, graphic facilitation, and game-based learning.
Human rights education: The program will address specific challenges faced by youth workers in diverse cultural contexts.
Collaborative: The course will involve participants in co-designing content through a peer-to-peer education approach, fostering collaboration and exchange of best practices from different countries.

Selection

24 participants from 3 countries will be selected by Project Partners. The selection criteria focus on individuals with experience in youth work, non-formal education, or creative practices, who seek innovative tools to promote human rights and social inclusion.  

Logistics and conditions

The organizers will cover logistics and accommodation, including:
Round-trip economy flights to/from Budapest
Bus transfer to/from the Academy location
Accommodation in shared hostel rooms (2–3 people per room)
Meals and coffee breaks

Deadlines:

Application deadline: April 30, 2025
Accepted participants notified: May 3, 2025.
InfoPack sent to accepted participants: after May 5, 2025
Academy dates: May 23–31, 2025

Internship

June–September 2025: This third stage of the project focuses on implementing the methodologies developed during the Light Academy in local communities across Sweden, Hungary, and Ireland.
Academy participants are expected to integrate art-based non-formal education methods into their daily work. Under the guidance of local Project Partners (link to Project Partner section), they will pilot these methods, adapting them to meet local needs.
Academy participants will receive pilot funding of up to 500 EUR per project. This funding can be used for activities such as workshops, training sessions, or other formats.

Casebook

At the end of the implementation phase local project partner organizations together with the participants will develop a  Casebook. This document will capture experiences, challenges, and success stories of the local implementation of the methods learned during training.
It will serve as both a reflective tool for participants and a resource for other youth workers and organizations interested in using creative methodologies for human rights education.
